Recently, I have been asked about a lot about the B2B data that we present on our site. Inference: A perception that most business directories have data that is, let’s say, of “suspect quality”.
My personal perception is that, for the most part, business directories have pretty good B2B data. If I have one complaint about my industry is that the information about companies on business directories is often very thin with barely much more than address and phone number.
Almost all business directories are free so one can say that “you get what you pay for”.
I beg to differ. Yes, Bizcompare.com is free but I think you get a lot for your time investment.
Ergo, I thought I would articulate what we present on our web site and what our data strategy is so I can now point to this blog when folks ask me “what makes you different?”.
Firstly, we present 108 Industry Research Reports. Each one contains:
- An industry description
- Number of companies in that industry, nationally
- Number of companies in that industry, by state
- The North American Industry Classification System code for that industry
- The 20 most popular services provided by that industry
- Graphs that show annual business sales, number of employees, sales per employee and years in business for all the businesses in that industry.

Secondly, we present a List of Companies page that shows all the individual companies in a specific industry. There are filters available so that a user can narrow the list to their specific needs. Filters are by:
- State
- Annual business sales
- Number of employees
- Sales per employee
- Years in business

Lastly, we present a Company Profile for each of the over 1.5 million companies on our site. When available, we present the following data elements for a company:
- Company name
- Address
- City, State, Zip Code
- Phone number
- Contact name and title
- Website
- NAICS code
- Primary SIC code
- Secondary SIC code(s)
- Industry name
- Parent industry name
- Services the company provides
- Keywords attributed to that company (i.e. brand names, special services, etc.)
- Annual business sales
- Number of employees
- Sales per employee
- Years in business
- A list of up to 20 similar companies in the same state
- Graphs showing the distribution for annual sales, employees, sales/employee and years in business for all similar companies at the state and national levels.

The final element that I gladly share is a BizCompare B2B Data Philosophy and Strategy.
I am very proud of our site and hope that users find their experience with us to be useful.
But I am always open and looking for ways to improve user experience so please feel free to leave a comment if you have any ideas.
Thanks for reading my blog and please visit again.
