About this time last year, I had an idea about a new website. It would be a business directory but not just a copy of the dozens of existing business directories. I subsequently spent the next 2-3 months doing a very in depth analysis of the market and confirmed that there was a niche in this crowded market to establish a new business directory site.

- There are dozens of sites that have company information like company name, address, phone, contact names and a little bit of product or service info. Seeing additional company info like how long they’ve been in business, number of employees or annual sales is not uncommon but one has to dig a little harder to find that detail.
- But, what you I couldn’t find anywhere (for free that is) was any information to COMPARE a company. There was lots of good company info out there but no context. How about some context, people?
- Also, every site that I looked at presented information in text only. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that but I felt that there was room to liven up the information seeking process with graphics.
These two key findings (comparison and graphics) became the underpinning for my site. They would become my differentiating factors within the crowded business directory market. Thus, BizCompare.com was born.
The site displays a company’s information in comparison to its peer group thereby providing an enhanced frame of reference for any kind of evaluation. Plus, the graphical format tells the story much better than text alone. Every company profile features four graphs showing the percent distribution of all similar companies and where the business in question falls.
The detailed text on the site appeals to left brain people while the graphs appeal to right brain people. We have the whole brain covered!
